The History & Provenance These rugs are woven all across Afghanistan, particularly in the northern provinces of Afghanistan (Faryab, Jowzjan, Balkh). There are also different variations of kilims depending on their origin - Turkmen kilims have diamond lattice patterns of red and black, Maimana kilims have bold geometric patterns and dark earthy colours, and Chubi kilims have high-contrast colour combinations. Craftsmanship & Texture Kilim rugs are one of the most common rugs woven in Afghanistan, often consisting of geometric medallions (lozenges, diamonds, hexagons) and bold colours derived from madder root (reds), indigo (blues), pomegranate rind (yellows), walnut husk or oak galls (browns and blacks).
