At this thickness it is worth separating it from a product it gets confused with, because Knauf also make loft rolls in 200mm and the two are not interchangeable. FactoryClad is a cladding quilt, supplied uncut at 1200mm wide to suit the rail and bracket spacer systems used in twin-skin profiled metal cladding and standing seam roofs. It sits in the cavity between the liner sheet and the outer weather sheet on a steel frame, not between joists in a roof space. Each roll measures 4.85m by 1200mm and covers 5.82m², with 24 rolls to a pallet giving 139.68m². Declared thermal conductivity is 0.040 W/mK, producing a thermal resistance of 5.00 m²K/W. Published embodied carbon is 1.73 kgCO2e/m² across stages A1 to A3 and 2.29 kgCO2e/m² across A1 to C4. Water vapour resistivity is declared at 5.00 MNs/g.m, which is low, and at 200mm that figure deserves some thought. A cavity this deep carries a large temperature difference across it in winter, and where the dew point falls within the build-up becomes a design question rather than a product one. Because the quilt is close to vapour open, moisture control in a built-up system rests on the vapour control layer, the sealing of the liner sheet and the detailing, not on the insulation resisting vapour. Specify and seal that layer properly and the depth works for you. Leave it to chance and the depth simply relocates the dew point somewhere less convenient. Knauf size the roll at 1200mm specifically for the rail and bracket systems used in twin-skin profiled cladding and standing seam roofs, so on a standing seam job the width should drop onto the existing clip and rail spacings without fuss. 200mm suits wide-span industrial and commercial buildings that are heated or cooled and occupied through the year, where the roof is the dominant heat loss path, and on farms that takes in packhouses, grading rooms and on-farm processing units. One point in its favour in those settings is that the quilt is fully enclosed by the liner sheet, so it is not present in the occupied space at all. The U-value belongs to the assembly, so have it calculated to BS EN ISO 6946:2017 or BS EN ISO 10211:2017 using BR443:2019. Moisture control comes from the vapour control layer, not the quilt: at 5.00 MNs/g.m the wool is close to vapour open, so the VCL and the sealing of the liner sheet do that work. Confirm the spacer system will take 200mm: bracket height and fixing lengths need to suit the depth on walls as well as roofs. Handle and stack without crushing the roll edges.
