With D-AIHE “Leverkusen”, another official release joins the Aviationtag x Lufthansa Collection: a real piece of Lufthansa Airbus A340-600 history – now also available as a NoLongerLost QR code variant. Delivered to Lufthansa in January 2004, this four-engine long-haul aircraft became part of the airline’s intercontinental fleet for many years. In the final stage of its career, D-AIHE already wore Lufthansa’s new livery before its active service came to an end in 2020. What makes this aircraft especially remarkable: D-AIHE was not only a passenger aircraft, but also part of the IAGOS-CARIBIC research programme. Between 2004 and March 2020, it completed around 500 measurement flights for climate and atmospheric research, collecting valuable data at cruising altitude during regular long-haul operations. The Airbus A340-642 with MSN 540 was parked in Teruel in 2020 and recycled in 2025.
