Antique Farmhouse or Tavern Settle in Original Paint
A handsome Georgian pine and elm country settle in wonderful original condition, retaining the warmth, character, and patina that only age can bring. An especially elegant example, it features raised panelled front and back, beautifully shaped curved armrests with attractive natural wear, and a gently bowed form. Every aspect of its design was intended to shelter those seated from draughts while enjoying the warmth of the fireside in a farmhouse or tavern, creating a comfortable and enclosed seating space. With its honest craftsmanship, pleasing proportions, and rich original surface, this is a fine example of early 19th-century English country furniture. It was most likely made in the Welsh Borders or Somerset. English, c.1800–1830
