Joinery Bench Black | POJ Studio x Norm Architects

This is the second piece in our Joinery Series, designed in partnership with Norm Architects. Using traditional sashimono (Japanese no-nails wood joinery method), the components of this bench are carved so they slot together perfectly, ensuring a sturdy build. You'll experience the art of joinery for yourself, appreciating the precision in design as you interlock each piece. With a minimal design that still carries the visual identity of classic Japanese forms, this bench is suited to interiors the whole world over. Made of dense hinoki (cypress), this project aims to contribute to Japan’s sustainable foresting practice by rebalancing ecosystems and bringing more work to Japanese carpenters skilled in joinery techniques. This collaboration is born of shared values: both POJ Studio and Norm Architects place people, craft, and quality at the center of everything we do.
