The Battalion Hooded Poncho Liner is three pieces of kit in one: a wearable hooded cape, a full-size quilted camping blanket, and — with the side zip closed — a light sleeping bag. Known to soldiers the world over as a woobie, it is the one piece of insulation that never leaves the daysack. Quilted polyester wadding traps warmth without weight, the hood pulls up over a hat or helmet, and the hem drawcord pulls in to keep heat where you want it. Opened out flat it measures 152 x 203cm — big enough to cover two people round a fire, on a bivvy mat, in a hide, or on the back seat of the car. No. It is an insulating liner, not a rain poncho. Wear it under a waterproof poncho or basha in heavy rain. Can I actually sleep in it? Yes. Close the side zip and it becomes a hooded sleeping cape.
