Human Trafficking Awareness for Employees

Human trafficking can happen in any community and across many industries, sometimes in places connected directly to the workplace. Human Trafficking Awareness: Recognizing the Signs and Knowing What to Do gives employees the knowledge they need to recognize potential signs of labor and sex trafficking and respond safely and responsibly. This practical training explores how traffickers may use force, fraud, coercion, threats, debt, deception, financial control, isolation, and other forms of manipulation to exploit people. Employees learn to recognize potential warning signs such as restricted freedom, withheld identification documents, controlled transportation or housing, wage manipulation, excessive working hours, unsafe conditions, unusual levels of workplace control, and signs of physical or psychological distress. Because human trafficking is often hidden, recognizing it is not always straightforward. The course teaches employees to look for patterns rather than rely on a single warning sign or stereotype. Participants also learn how to report factual observations, respond appropriately when someone discloses possible exploitation, and follow their organization’s established reporting procedures. Above all, the training reinforces a critical message: recognize and report—do not confront, rescue, or investigate.
