The 14th/15thC Coustille Bundle

The Coustille Sword The Coustille was a short sword favoured by French brigands and soldiers of the 14th and 15thC. Short enough to be handy in a tight place and easy to wear and carry, long enough to be really useful. There are no museum examples that can definitively be called a Coustille, but there are hints in original artwork and the descriptions are fairly uniform, of a short double edged blade with an acute point and a sword hilt. Our Coustille comes with a wheel pommel with inset brass disc, cord bound leather grip and slightly downturned quillons with an octagonal form. The hand forged blade is diamond section with central fuller and is made from 1060 spring steel. It is a wickedly fast performer. The sword comes with a wood cored naturally tanned leather scabbard with incised and stamped decoration a brass chape and belt with period correct buckle. Blade length 50cm/19.5″ Overall length 65.5cm/25.75” Grip length 10cm/4” Weight 650g/1lbs7oz Point of balance 9cm/3.5” from hilt The 14thC Quillon Dagger This 14th Century medieval quillon dagger is based on numerous examples and with the slightly downturned guard and the wheel pommel with the raised centre, it is typical of daggers of the 14th Century. Daggers similar to this were common for knights and men at arms. Double edged with a double layer, veg tan leather sheath and simple crimped brass chape. The handle is cord-wrapped brown leather and it has 3 risers. Sheath comes in five colours and dagger can be sharp or semi-sharp.
