Intro to Tile Making w/ David Lamberti

This 4-week course taught by artist instructor David Lamberti introduces students to the process of designing and producing ceramic tiles using a plaster press mold. Students will create an original tile design, learn how to make and use a plaster mold, and finish their work with glaze. By the end of the course, each student will leave with one reusable plaster mold and up to 10 finished fired tiles. Sundays from 1-3 pm | 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8 Location 700 Livernois Ferndale, MI 48220 Class Outline Week 1: Designing the Positive Tile Week 2: Mold Making with Plaster Week 3: Mold Cleanup & Tile Pressing Week 4: Glazing & Finishing What you’ll need: Your own set of tools We recommend carving tools and/or our Signature Toolkit A sketchbook Pencil, pen, or markers Straight ruler About This Class Classes meet once a week for 2-hour sessions, with open studio time daily for you to practice on your own. Class meets on: Sundays from 1-3 pm | 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8 Course fee includes everything you need: clay, use of studio tools, materials, one completed plaster mold, and firing for up to 10 pieces. Additional clay is available for purchase at our supply shop. Bisque pieces made outside of the studio must be made using Cone 5/6 clay. To get the most out of this class, we recommend that you feel comfortable with basic clay knowledge and have taken our Beginning Handbuilding class. We strongly advise you to make sure you’ll be able to attend all class sessions before signing up. We do not offer make-ups for this class. We cannot provide refunds or credits for cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than 24 hours before class starts, if you miss class, or arrive too late to participate.
