Zenobia pulverulenta 'Woodlander's Blue'

Woodlander's Blue Zenobia. This great native selection was introduced by Woodlanders of Aiken, SC, with foliage much more blue than the species. It produces showy terminal racemes of bell-like white flowers in spring. It is semi-evergreen but in the fall it produces brilliant golden or orange leaves, which to me has one of the great appeals of this selection. It grows best in sandy well-drained soil with uniform moisture in full sun to part shade. At a planting of this species at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, it is planted in a bog environment with pitcher plants and other wetland species. If one has a problem wet area, one might try a Zenobia and/or Eubotrys, both Ericaceous species. It is native to the coastal Carolinas.
