'Kind of Blue' Pet Nat
Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent & Rotburger, Burgenland, Austria A zippy, lush and charmingly blue Austrian ‘blanc de noir’ (aka white wine from red grapes) pet-nat for shedding a tear. Gernot and Heike Heinrich’s 100+ hectares in the municipality of Gols, Burgenland are farmed certified biodynamically since 2006, and stocked with sheep, ducks, hens, and beehives! Their lineup is teasingly diverse, with a through line of finesse and spirit achieved through minimal intervention in the cellar. A direct-pressed blend of berried and savoury blaufränkisch (50%), earthy, spiced st. laurent (40%) and juicy, tart rotburger (10%) that were fermented in stainless steel and moved to bottle before the ferment was over to trap irresistibly melancholic bubbles – we just wanna give them a hug, and be hugged in return. Rosehip tea, peonies, bucket of fresh plums, salted rhubarb meets wild raspberry, lime zest, ripe kumquat, a creamy, crystalline sorbet texture, plucky minerality & homemade sourdough bite. Enjoy while watching Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun, reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, or telling your friends all the reasons you love them.
