The concentrated palate delivers terrific weight and plush texture, wonderfully framed by silky tannins, leading to a sustained, delicious finish.” Estate 2024 Merlot: 2025 Small Winemaker Show, 93 Points -“Very deep bright colour, very ripe and full, big and rich. colour - dark red with light red edges. Nose - brambly dark fruit (plums, blackberry), coffee/mocha oak. Round well balanced mouthfeel with mouthwatering acid and soft velvety tannins. Great drinkability.” Judges: Adriaan Foot, Adrian Marchioro, Dan Piwko-Graham and Andrew Scott. ACO Certified Organic & Vegan Australia Certified As one of Australia's most consistent Merlot producers, this under-appreciated variety offers exceptional value. Château Pétrus sells for around $3,000 per bottle and, while not quite as expensive, Le Pin (also from Pomerol) and Château Cheval Blanc both often contain a little Cabernet Franc in their Merlots. The funny thing is so does Mount Avoca! The 2024 Merlot is one of our best Merlots - richly flavoured with that delightfully soft and supple finish. COLOUR: Dark ruby red with purple cherry highlights and slow legs on the swirl. NOSE: Clean and complex developed aromas of dense plum, raspberry jam and stewed fig, with a toasty bramble vapour. PALATE: Clean full-bodied flavours of dark plum, bright cherry and fresh date, carried by a silky tannin structure and finishing long with blueberry and sweet, nutty toast. WINEMAKING: The fruit is harvested from two clones of mature Merlot vines in Sections A & D on the estate vineyard. Traditional vinification techniques are applied with minimal intervention to preserve its regional identity. FOOD PAIRING: Roast beef or slow-cooked lamb shanks with potatoes. VINTAGE NOTES: After three successive cooler and wetter La Niña years (2021–2023), we experienced drier, warmer growing conditions in 2024, creating a growing season conducive to a high-quality outcome given our elevated, cooler site. A pre-flowering frost reduced net yield potential by 5% across Blocks A, B and C. Ideal flowering conditions thereafter resulted in a good crop, producing grapes with clean and generous varietal expression.
