Your Journey Corfu An early start takes you to the port, where you board the ferry and leave Corfu for a day on the mainland. │ ACROSS THE IONIAN SEA Corfu → Igoumenitsa Enjoy the morning ferry crossing to Igoumenitsa. From there, continue by coach through the landscapes of northern Greece. │ METEORA Where the landscape changes completely As you approach Meteora, the enormous rock formations rise from the valley — with historic monasteries perched high atop their summits. This is your first glimpse of one of Greece’s most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites. │ THE MONASTERIES Centuries of history above the clouds Visit two of Meteora’s historic monasteries with your guide. Step inside places of worship that have stood for centuries, see Byzantine frescoes and religious artwork, and learn about the monastic communities that settled here. Take time to enjoy the views as well. │ KALAMBAKA Time to slow down After the monasteries, head to Kalambaka, the town beneath the rocks. Enjoy free time for lunch, a short walk or simply to take in the surroundings before the return journey. │ THE JOURNEY BACK Meteora → Igoumenitsa → Corfu After a memorable day on the mainland, relax aboard the coach as you return to Igoumenitsa. Men should wear long trousers. Women are required to wear a long skirt and have their shoulders covered. Appropriate coverings may be available at the monastery entrances, but we recommend arriving suitably dressed. Comfortable Shoes There is walking involved during the monastery visits, including steps and uneven surfaces. Comfortable, supportive footwear is strongly recommended. What to Bring During the warmer months, we recommend bringing water, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. And don’t forget your camera — there are plenty of spectacular photo opportunities throughout the day.
