Serious vertical power for the property that needs more than a trickle. A small turbine keeps a battery topped up. A farm shed, a workshop, an off-grid home with a real daily load — they need more than that, and they usually sit exactly where the wind is worst behaved: swirling around buildings, tree lines and machinery sheds, never from the same direction twice. A horizontal machine spends that weather chasing its tail. The HPRO-2000 is the big brother in our H-type vertical axis wind turbine range — three straight aluminium-alloy blades on a magnetic-levitation generator, rated 2000 W. Vertical means it takes wind from all 360 degrees with no yaw mechanism at all, and the maglev bearing means the rotor starts moving at 2.5 m/s. It weighs 200 kg — this is a fixed piece of infrastructure, and we will be blunt about what that means for mounting further down. Straight up about the numbers: the 2000 W rating is measured at 12 m/s — a 43 km/h blow, not a normal afternoon. The manufacturer publishes no power curve for its vertical models, so we cannot show you a watts-per-wind-speed table the way we do for our horizontal turbines — and we will not invent one. On a typical usable breeze you will see a fraction of the rated figure, working around the clock. Treat it as a round-the-clock charging assist for a serious battery bank, alongside solar rather than instead of it. What It Solves The swirling-wind block: sheds, silos and tree lines chop the wind into gusts from every direction. A vertical rotor takes all of them — no yaw mechanism to hunt back and forth. The bank that solar can't finish: a property-sized battery bank needs more than daylight hours. Wind keeps feeding it through the night and through the grey winter fronts that flatten panels for days. The wind-plus-solar question: this model is offered with a wind-solar hybrid controller — one box runs the turbine on MPPT and a PV array on PWM. Its little brother the HPRO-1000 has no such option. The site near people: the manufacturer's case for the maglev generator and yaw-free design is quiet running close to occupied buildings — homes, farms, work sites. Less generator time: at this scale every windy day is litres of diesel not burnt and a service interval pushed back. No PV input at all — but it is the one controller in this class with a real, published current rating: 42 A maximum output, straight off its own datasheet page. What Else You'll Need A turbine on a pole is half a system. The other half is a mount an engineer has signed off on, cable sized for the run, breakers and an isolator, a dump load (included with either kit controller) and a battery bank to feed. Cable sizing depends on run length, voltage and current — that is your electrician's call, not a line on a product page. Q & A Will it really make 2000 watts? At 12 m/s — a 43 km/h blow — that is the manufacturer's rating, with a stated maximum of 2,200 W. Unlike our horizontal turbines, the manufacturer publishes no power curve for this model, so we cannot tell you what it makes at 5, 7 or 9 m/s — and we will not calculate a figure and pass it off as measured. Expect a fraction of the rated output in normal usable wind, and size your system accordingly. Can I mount it on the roof? Only with your eyes open. The manufacturer lists rooftop mounting at 3 to 6 m above the roofline — and in the same breath its own documentation says, word for word, "check roof structure before mounting." This is a 200 kg machine before you add the mount. That is a structural engineering question, not an installer's judgement call on the day. A ground mast at 6 to 10 m sidesteps the whole issue and usually finds cleaner air anyway. Does the kit controller take solar panels? Pick With Hybrid Controller and yes: the LHCM2-1/48V runs the turbine on MPPT and takes a solar array on a PWM input. Pick With Pure-Wind Controller and no: the WW20-48-48 has no PV input at all. They are different boxes for different systems — the WW20-48-48 table below spells out what is actually published, and for the hybrid unit the supplier prints only series-level figures, so there is no model-level table for us to show. Why don't you publish a charging current in amps for the hybrid kit? Because the supplier has not published one anywhere in the HCM series documentation, and we will not calculate one by dividing watts by volts — that is how people end up sizing breakers off a guess. Do not size cable or breakers from the wattage in any product title. The pure-wind WW20-48-48 is the exception in this class: its own datasheet publishes 42 A maximum output current, so that figure is in its table below. Is the cable from the turbine AC or DC? AC. The turbine generates 3-phase AC, and the rectifier inside the controller converts it to DC to charge the battery. A generator is not a battery: the voltage on that cable rises with rotor speed, which is exactly why the matched controller is built to take far more than the nominal battery voltage on its input. Cable selection and protection are your electrician's job. Is it really quiet? The manufacturer publishes no noise figure for the turbine, so we will not quote one. What we can tell you is the design case: a magnetic-levitation generator has almost no bearing friction, and a vertical rotor never slews around to chase the wind — those are the two things that make verticals the usual choice close to occupied buildings. If a decibel number matters to you, we do not have one to give. What happens to it in a storm? The electromagnetic brake and the controller's overspeed protection wind it back, and the machine is built to survive 35 m/s (126 km/h). That is a lower storm rating than every horizontal turbine we sell — coastal WA cops worse in a decent front. If your site regularly sees more than 126 km/h, do not put this turbine on it. Professional installation by a licensed electrician is a condition of it — keep the electrician's invoice with your paperwork.
