Rumex transitorius (Pacific Willow Dock)

Pacific Willow Dock is most commonly found in the driftwood zone of coastal beaches but also occurs in a variety of shoreline habitats, including streambanks, lakeshores, and rocky beaches, as well as in upland meadows. New spring growth emerges in a rich burgundy before maturing to slender, willow-like green leaves. Small green flowers develop into attractive reddish-brown seed heads. Pacific Willow Dock is a larval host plant for the Purplish Copper Butterfly.
