Gasteria armstrongii Cultivars & Hybrids SEEDS

Gasteria armstrongii is one of the most distinctive dwarf succulents of the Eastern Cape, in South Africa, where it grows in shallow quartz and shale pockets among low scrub. The plant keeps a strictly two-ranked (distichous) arrangement all its life: thick, blunt, tongue-shaped leaves lie almost flat against the ground, one above the other, forming a low fan rather than an upright rosette. The leaf surface is dark green to almost blackish, rough with fine tubercles, and the whole plant rarely exceeds a few centimetres in height. In modern taxonomic treatments this taxon is placed under Gasteria nitida as Gasteria nitida var. armstrongii, but it remains universally known and traded under its original name.The seeds offered here are a mix of different hybrids from the private collection of Botanical Archive Nursery. They are not seeds of a single named clone: the lot brings together several distinct crosses held in our own collection, so the seedlings are correspondingly variable in leaf shape, degree of tuberculation, colour tone and overall proportions. This is exactly what makes the material interesting for collectors — every seedling is a unique individual, and none of them will be an exact copy of its parents.
