Lalesa | Ethiopia Producer: Lalesa Smallholders x Eptah Specialty Coffee Region: Lalesa, Gedeb Process: Anaerobic Natural Varietal: Heirloom Tastes Like: Ribena, Strawberry, White Chocolate Roasted for: Filter About the coffee: Grown at elevations of 2,150 to 2,200 metres in the Gedeb region, this anaerobic coffee is naturally cultivated beneath the shade of Ensete, also known as the false banana tree. The cherries are fermented in sealed plastic barrels for five days before being dried for 13 to 18 days, creating a vibrant, fruit-forward cup with layers of Ribena, ripe strawberry and creamy white chocolate. About the Producer This coffee comes from smallholder farmers in Lalesa, working in partnership with Ephtah Specialty Coffee and founder Wubit Bekele. After years working for one of Ethiopia’s largest coffee exporters, Wubit established Ephtah to create stronger opportunities for women farmers and build more equitable relationships throughout the coffee supply chain. A certified Q Grader, Wubit personally cups every lot purchased and exported by Ephtah, ensuring quality and traceability from origin to cup. Alongside producing exceptional coffee, the partnership supports the local community through initiatives including a day care centre for farmers’ children and the Ama Commitment scheme, which provides additional support and opportunities for women producers.
