Vannes Crystal Cutlery Rests | Set of 12
A set of twelve crystal rests that lay the table properly — a place to set the carving knife and fork between courses, so the linen stays clean and the service stays considered. Clear crystal, each rest cut with a criss-cross ridge along the top. The ridge is the point: it holds a knife or fork still rather than letting it roll to the cloth. Small and weighted at 7.8 cm, sized for a single piece of cutlery. Twelve in the set — a full table laid, or a service kept in reserve. Art Vannes was the mark of the Cristalleries de Vannes-le-Châtel in Lorraine, a glassmaking region working since the 18th century. The Art Vannes kilns ran from the 1950s through around 1970, when the house gave way to Cristal de Sèvres. This set dates to the 1950s, the earlier years of that production.
