Bamboo Stick Pu-erh, 2003
This limited lot pu-erh, from 2003, was made in a shu style—in which moisture is added to the leaves during processing, to help boost fermentation—and then packed into a bamboo stalk to age. It has a peaty fragrance, with a hint of lemongrass, and sweet eucalyptus flavor, which holds up through dozens of infusions. To open, place the stalk upright on a stable surface; use a knife to gently split it into two pieces. Store the tea in the bamboo, resting on its side; flake off a portion when ready to brew. Country: China Region: Yunnan Province Tasting Notes: peat, eucalyptus, lemongrass Year of Production: 2003 100 g -- 200-210º F 3-5 grams, 3 minute steep ⅓ full, 10-30 second steep
