Foundry Cyanotype Greeting Cards by Penny Gray

These greeting cards from the Foundry feature original cyanotype artwork by Penny Gray, printed by the sun onto paper. These greeting cards are then reprinted using recycled paper and non-toxic inks on a solar powered printing press. Cyanotype was developed in the mid 1800s and is one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. Penny uses this camera-less technique, laying an object or a negative on a base material coated with a solution of iron salts, exposing it to the sun and washing it with water to create these stunning white and Prussian blue photograms. Through her art Penny aims to promote the beauty and benefits of local plant species and encourage people to plant local. Fun Fact: The term ‘blueprint’ comes from the use of cyanotypes!
