Pair of Grand Scale Continental European Patinated Bronze Recumbent Lions
An impressive pair of early to mid 20th century continental European recumbent lions, cast in the grand Neoclassical tradition after the iconic models by Antonio Canova. These grand-scale guardians are captured in a relaxed yet powerful sphinx-like pose, complete with sculpted, sweeping manes and expressive faces. Their magnificent scale, substantial weight and beautiful authentic verdigris patina make them an unforgettable focal point for a grand entry, a fireplace hearth, or an elegant garden terrace. Made using traditional hollow-cast bronze foundry techniques, they feature an organically weathered verdigris patina. The surface boasts a magnificent, multi-toned blend of vivid moss greens and rich, deep bronze undertones. The natural aging of the bronze beautifully accentuates the details of their muscular form, thick cascading manes, and long wrapped tails. Set of two lions 22ʺW × 9ʺD × 12ʺH Very heavy, each weighs approx. 33lbs. These were likely cast in Europe, with Italy being the strongest candidate, followed by France Really great condition with a robust, sturdy structure. Showcasing a genuine weathered oxidation, minor surface pitting, and light scuffs to the bases consistent with outdoor display and vintage age. This is a vintage, found item and may contain imperfections from years of wear. These imperfections are not considered defective. This product is final sale.
