Polo Lessons Intro – Intermediate Level Join us for polo in the heart of New York’s polo country. Located just minutes from the renowned Mashomack Polo Club, home to both professionals and amateur players. Our venue offers the perfect setting to dive into one of the world’s most exciting equestrian sports. The trainers can cater to a variety of levels — making it a perfect introduction to polo or a fun way to practice and develop your existing skills. Polo is an exhilarating team sport that combines athleticism, adrenaline, and camaraderie into a thrilling game on horseback. Known as the “Sport of Kings” (and queens!), polo is one of the oldest team sports in the world and is played globally. This is a unique opportunity to learn and practice the sport in a safe, fun, and relaxed environment. SCHEDULE Riders arrive 30 minutes ahead of scheduled time to groom and tack horses. ~60 minute class. Class ends and riders untack, put away horses and clean tack, around another 30 minutes. Many times there may be a bbq happening after so feel free to join in for the fun! SETTING Located in the beautiful countryside of Dutchess County, New York, about 90 miles from NYC, this unique farm specializes in creating immersive polo experiences. The facility features both an indoor polo arena and outdoor polo field, allowing riders to train year-round. The farm also includes a traditional South American BBQ area and an on-site Airbnb with six bedrooms and beautiful social spaces, making it a perfect opportunity to turn your polo experience into a weekend getaway. THE SOCIAL SIDE OF POLO Polo is as much about community as it is about sport. After your ride you may be able to enjoy the social atmosphere of the farm, designed for traditional South American Asado gatherings. Relax, watch other players, and spend time with fellow riders in a welcoming environment. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Riders should be Level 2b+ Posting at the trot Confident cantering Ability to maintain balance and control their horse while holding the reins in one hand and a mallet in the other RECOMMENDED POLO ATTIRE Riding gloves or other grippy gloves (helpful for holding the mallet) Comfortable riding pants or jeans (white pants not required) Tall boots or paddock boots with half chaps for grip and protection Helmet Mallets will be provided for use during the lesson. WHAT TO EXPECT IN A POLO LESSON Learn new riding and polo vocabulary Practice rotating and hitting a ball while in the saddle Learn how to balance while swinging the mallet Develop coordination between horse, rider, and ball FUN FACTS ABOUT POLO Polo dates back to 600 BC in China and Persia. It was historically used as training for war along the Silk Road. Polo was introduced to the United States in 1876, with early clubs established in New York. Polo is a mixed sport, meaning men and women compete on the same teams.
