Nantucket/Shaker style Basket by Christ Shaw

Hand woven around a mold with a wood base, this classic Nantucket Basket is woven by Christa Shaw. Each basket is a unique piece of art. Look for the tightness of weave and the straight, uniformative of the vertical staves. She is a 30 plus year master who unfortunately is scaling back her production as she is in her early 80's. She was at a craft show and saw a person making traditional Shaker baskets and she loved the added texture. She discovered they use shaven Ash for the twisted weavers. Christa decided she could "marry" the two uniquily American basket weaving styles into one basket which she calls a "barnacle" basket.
