Combining coloured plexiglass with wood, this relief exemplifies Paul Van Hoeydonck's innovative approach to transparency and spatial construction. Slender coloured elements radiate from a central core, creating a composition that changes continuously as light interacts with the layered materials. The transparent support allows shadows and reflections to become active components of the work, reinforcing the sensation of movement and expansion. Van Hoeydonck (1925–2025) joined the Formes group in 1956 and co-founded G58 in Antwerp two years later, marking his shift from figuration into geometric abstraction. He is internationally best known for 'Fallen Astronaut', the aluminium sculpture placed on the Moon by the crew of Apollo 15 in 1971 in tribute to astronauts and cosmonauts who died in the exploration of space.
