"I think of this as a painting about the long-distance stare — those moments when you look towards the horizon, and your attention begins to drift. The world becomes quieter, time seems to slow, and for a few moments there is nowhere else you need to be. The landscape is invented, but built from the residue of real places: fields, roads, horizons and fragments of remembered light. It isn't meant to represent somewhere so much as evoke the peculiar feeling of somewhere you almost recognise. A place that may never have existed, but somehow feels like it belongs to you."
