Where the glaze runs thin, along the rim and the edges, it naturally takes on an amber tone, and on some faces a hint of yellow drifts through. It has the stillness of the sky just before daybreak, when the color hasn't settled yet. The form is the same as the other nine colors. The 13 cm height developed with a veterinarian, and the shallow, wide dish that keeps whiskers clear. Everything that makes it kind to a cat stays; only the color is new. It joins the existing nine as the tenth. Like the sky just before dawn. Where the glaze sits thin - the rim, the corners - it comes out of the kiln with an amber cast. Nothing was drawn there on purpose; it's simply what this glaze does. A spot of warmth bleeding through the pale blue. Look down into the bowl and it's the first place your eye lands. The color shifts depending on which face you're looking at. The inner slope turns yellow; the outside reads bluer. By a window it looks cool, and in late-afternoon light, a little warmer. A quiet bowl that never quite commits to one color. Asagi, a Japanese color name. Asagi is one of the old Japanese names for a shade of indigo - the pale blue that appears when indigo is dyed lightly. The name comes from the color of a spring onion leaf, lightened. CHALICE's Asagi takes that pale blue and drops the saturation further, working in grey and white.
