Description This course is a brief introduction to spoken Ancient Greek, arranged by everyday topics like: greetings (How are you? What’s your name?), introducing yourself, the weather, health & illness, the human body, sports, nature, romance & friendship, and more! This class is a continuation from last term and will cover new topics not discussed in the previous course. It can be attended by new and continuing students alike. διαλεξώμεθα ἑλληνιστί! For Whom Is This Course? advanced beginners to early intermediate learners of Ancient Greek Prerequisites some first knowledge of Ancient Greek (at least half a year of university studies or equivalent) no prior experience speaking the language is needed Language of Instruction Ancient Greek & English Texts will be handed out for each session Time & Date Wednesdays, 17:00-18:00 Central European Time September 16-November 18, 2026 (ten weeks in total, once a week) Teacher Joanna Thornhill Joanna Thornhill was born and raised in sunny Los Angeles, California. She studied Liberal Arts at St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has a great passion for ancient languages and is particularly interested in how to actively use and teach them in a way that is both comprehensible to students and faithful to the idiom and usage of the ancient writers. She has taught a variety of students Greek and Latin both in individual and group settings. Outside of her studies, she enjoys hiking and baking. You can cancel your registration any time via email. If you cancel before a class has started, you will receive a full refund of the course fee you have paid minus a ten percent administration fee. If you have to cancel a class that has already started, you will receive a partial refund in direct proportion to the number of classes that you have attended minus the ten percent administration fee.
