Tibetan bone and silver Kapala - 19th century

This traditional Tibetan bowl consists of a carved skullcap covered with a layer of pure silver. Used in esoteric Buddhist rituals, this bowl would receive offerings. Wine could also be drunk from it to symbolize the blood of defeated demons. Small silver skulls adorn the rim of the Kapala; some of these are missing.
