[Exodus] "WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD I WILL PASS OVER YOU" - Reverse Painted Glass Sign, ca. 1930s

Highly unusual and graphically striking reverse-painted glass sign, American, ca. 1930s, with the phrase "When I see the blood, I will pass over you" \from the biblical Book of Exodus (12:13). Colorful foil and patterned lettering against a black ground, silver edges under scalloped glass edges, metal backing with looped hanger. 13 x 18 cm plus hanger. The words here refer to the final plague God sent upon Egypt, where he told the Israelites to mark the doorways of their homes with the blood of a lamb. This marked them as under God's protection, so that when the plague of death that killed the firstborn of every Egyptian household passed through, it would "pass over" their homes and spare them.
