Vintage Indigo Patchwork Cotton Komebukuro Rice Bag

A rare vintage Japanese komebukuro, a traditional drawstring cotton rice bag hand pieced from a variety of indigo-dyed textiles. The bag features a beautiful combination of handwoven cottons, including stripes, checks, kasuri and plain indigo fabrics, with carefully applied patches that reflect the Japanese tradition of repairing and reusing treasured textiles. Komebukuro were originally made to carry and store rice. They were also commonly used for bringing rice to ceremonial occasions and temples as an offering.
