Thermal Economics Isorubber Base is a 6mm thick acoustic insulation and vibration-reducing mat, laid beneath a screed or timber floating floor to reduce impact sound and vibration transmission between storeys. It's a dense rubber composite with a smooth, granular surface, supplied in black, and is approved for use beneath screed on concrete floors, as well as beneath timber overlays and laminate flooring. Supplied at 6mm x 1m x 10m per roll, Isorubber Base has a density of approximately 635kg/m³, an elongation at break of 40% and a tensile strength of 0.3N/mm² (both tested to EN ISO 1978), and a service temperature range of -30°C to +80°C. That density is what gives it its durability: the mat undergoes virtually no short-term deformation or long-term creep deformation under normal domestic loads, so it doesn't lose acoustic performance over the working life of the building the way a lighter, more compressible layer can. Isorubber Base is manufactured from 100% recycled or diverted landfill rubber, a mix of prime rubber manufacturing waste and car tyres with a proportion of binding agent, with no blowing agents, CFCs or HCFCs used in manufacture. It carries a Global Warming Potential and Ozone Depletion Potential of zero, turning a genuinely problematic waste stream into a functional acoustic product rather than landfill. Isorubber Base is compatible with all types of screed, both traditional sand and cement and flow screeds, and with all types of underfloor heating systems.
