Flea Market Item - Friand Tin Fancies 5

A charming collection of vintage French sewing notions in an old friand tin that we think would make a perfect pincushion! Nestled inside are gorgeous little pieces of French mercerie history that we have found during our adventures in the French markets. Inside are four original reels of lustrous sewing thread in graduated shades of soft lilac, pink and deep violet, together with a traditional metal dressmaker’s thimble and a card of nine milk glass four-hole buttons. Several of the thread reels retain their original paper labels, adding to their vintage character. The beautiful tonal palette makes this an especially appealing collection for slow stitching, textile collage or simply displaying amongst other old sewing treasures. The pieces appear to date broadly from the mid-20th century, around the 1940s–60s, with the expected gentle signs of age and use.
