1/18 Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage Cut-Off Model with Display Case #033/200 CMC M-290 -MH187
Its complex tubular space frame, finely woven from over 200 short pieces of tubing, gave the Maserati Tipo 60/61 its memorable and now legendary name, "Birdcage." Such a frame weighs just 30 kg, a stroke of genius for its inventor, Maserati chief engineer Giulio Alfieri. The Tipo 61's "cage," enclosed in an extremely tight aluminum body, is powered by a 2.9-liter four-cylinder inline engine that delivers a whopping 250 hp. Only 23 Tipo 60/61 models were built between 1959 and 1961. The white model with a blue vertical stripe is based on the winning car of Lucky Casner's Camoradi team and embodies model-making craftsmanship at its finest. Not only the tubular space frame – impressively visible near the windshield – but also the many other details are a feast for the eyes. Discover the fastest cage of all time.
