Jonas Wood: Dog-Faced Purple Orchid

Published by Hamilton Press, this limited-edition forty-one-color lithograph by Jonas Wood depicts a purple orchid with three blooms against a dark monochromatic ground. Wood has used images of flora as a vehicle for experimentation with color, pattern, and line throughout his oeuvre. The tropical plants featured in his paintings, drawings, and prints reflect not only the houseplants with which he fills his home and studio, but also Los Angeles’s climatic and cultural identity, linking the autobiographical impetus of the artist’s practice with his immediate surroundings.
