The Long View with Leonard Wee: Introduction

The Long View is a series of dialogues centred on creativity and the enduring questions that accompany a life of making, collecting and observing. Built on personal experiences and open-ended discussions, the programme recognises that no two people encounter an idea in quite the same way. Each conversation becomes a space where different interpretations, observations and lived experiences can coexist, offering a broader understanding of how we make sense of the world around us. This initiative is presented in partnership with Leonard Wee, a practitioner and educator whose work moves between art, design and teaching. A recipient of the DesignSingapore Scholarship, Leonard trained as a graphic designer before dedicating his practice to painting. His work is guided by the belief that meaningful imagery emerges through the meeting of intellect, emotion and skill. Painting serves as a means through which he examines personal experience, memory and the subjects that occupy his attention. His work has been exhibited in Singapore, the Philippines and New York, including presentations at Gajah Gallery, the School of Visual Arts Chelsea Gallery and 856 Gallery. For the upcoming dialogue titled "Living with Art & Design", the discussion will explore how these disciplines extend beyond professional practice and become part of everyday life. Through the lens of proportion and scale, we will consider how objects, spaces and images shape our experiences, and how meaning emerges through their relationship to one another. The intention is not to arrive at fixed conclusions, but to offer new ways of seeing and engaging with art and design in our own lives.
