An elegant Charles X-era dressing table mirror, circa 1820, crafted from mercury-gilded bronze and diamond-cut crystal. The mirror’s base conceals a musical mechanism with two interchangeable tunes, complete with a key and in working order. During the Charles X era, Paris saw the development of luxury items in crystal and gilded bronze, such as dressing sets, caskets, clocks, and candlesticks. Our mirror belongs to this category of objects and is a splendid example of it. Finely chiseled and gilded with mercury, it features a double-sided mirror; the mirror, polished with silver powder, is the original. On the side of the base, two levers are visible: one starts and stops the musical mechanism, while the other changes the melody. The mirror is in excellent condition.
