2022 The Angelus Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5L Magnum

Each vintage of The Angelus features a selection of exceptional McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2022 release includes grapes from two sites: the Yan Yarrah vineyard in the Onkaparinga Hills, with weathered, gravelly clay soil, and the Rayment Vineyard just north of the McLaren Vale township, which has red/brown loam with calcrete soil. These parcels were harvested with ideal tannin and flavour balance and processed in open fermenters, with a small percentage of whole bunch included. Each parcel received tailored handling, with extended time on skins before basket pressing and maturation in French oak (23% new) for 18 months. The ¾ tonne Angelus Bell, located at the entrance of Wirra Wirra’s century-old cellars, was salvaged from a Jesuit Church in Norwood. It plays a key role in the annual Bell-Ringing Ceremony, where McLaren Vale’s winemakers and grape growers gather on the Wirra Wirra lawns to celebrate the share a meal and a glass of wine before the chaos of vintage begins.
