Midnight Fox 24 x 36

A red fox rests on a fallen log against a deep black ground, ferns and undergrowth pushing up around him. Behind him, a tangle of leaves and branches in metal leaf glints softly from the dark. I start with a graphite drawing on the wood, then build the painting through about thirty layers — oils, washes, glazes, and metal leaf. 24" × 36" original on wood panel with a 2.25" gold-leafed edge.
