Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage 2018
About the wine Mayacamas Vineyards is a historic winery located near the summit of the Mount Feeder sub-appellation of Napa Valley. It is one of the region's most highly regarded producers of classic Cabernet Sauvignon, and is also known for its high quality white wines made from Chardonnay. The stone winery was built in 1889 by John Henry Fisher, a German immigrant and sword engraver who moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from Philadelphia. At the same time as establishing a pickle business, he planted Zinfandel vines on the property and made wine by the barrel, shipping it down the Napa River to San Francisco. However, Fisher was forced to sell the winery when his pickle business was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and had to declare bankruptcy. During Prohibition, the new owners sold wine legally to the Church for mass, while also running a bootlegging business on the side. In1941, the winery was sold to Jack and Mary Taylor, who renamed it "Mayacamas" and replanted the vineyards to Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. It changed hands again in 1968, and the 1971 Cabernet Sauvignon was entered into the 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting. It didn't place, but in a 2006 anniversary tasting it came in second, proving it as one of the more ageworthy wines in the Napa Valley. Typical blend, Cabernet Sauvignon. 75cl bottle, Abv 14% Bottle condition, capsule good, label good, wine level in neck Tasting Note 05/02/2026 -97 Points Damn this is goooood! I'm not afraid to open these young...yes it's a lot of power and structure in its youth, but in this wine, there is a wonderful "softness" to it...a Bordeaux silk if you will...you get to enjoy the pure and unblemished fruit, with all its energy and exuberance...without ripping your face off! Killer dark berry mountain fruits...liqueuered, yet dry extracted with graphite and savory crushed geology...showing a nice starter kit of complexities...kirsch, mint, cherry wood mulch, charcoal...the long everlasting finish hits you with dusty dry tannins that are LOADED with spice, as well as intoxicating florals...just GORGEOUS mouthful of young classic Napa cabernet! I'm getting more of these for sure! What happens next Your bottle will be carefully hand-packed in our mail-safe wine boxes to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.
