Antique Islamic Moorish Arab Mother-of-Pearl Inlaid & Carved Table Damascus 1890

A fine antique walnut Islamic Moorish carved and inlaid Mother-of Pearl table, with Islamic calligraphy, Damascus work, circa 1890. The table top is deeply and finely carved with geometric devices and inlaid with star shaped mother-of pearl, the table has a border of carved Thuluth Arabic script, which loosely translates as: "From all corners of the Earth blessings and good health to the owner". The shaped skirt at the front and rear is also inlaid with Mother-of pearl and circular panels of Mashrabiya, which is a traditional Islamic architectural and furniture element made of turned wood. Artisans assemble small, hand-carved wooden cylinders (the "sticks") connected by spherical joints (the "balls") without using nails or glue. The sides having corresponding Mother-of-Pearl inlay and and open carved circular window, the table is raised on carved cabriole legs joined with a second tier, both the legs and tier are carved and inlaid.
