Northline, Serviceberry
(Amelanchier alnifolia) Smaller than most Serviceberries of the Saskatoon variety, Northline tends to stay around 8-10 feet tall at maturity with a dense, bushy growth habit. It has a high degree of suckering making it ideal for windbreak hedges. It is very productive with large (up to 5/8″ in diameter) purple fruit with excellent sweet flavor. Flowering and fruiting is slightly later than Martin. Northline is a selection from Alberta, Canada and is very hardy to -40°F (USDA zone 3) when fully dormant. Self-fertile – can produce fruit on its own.
