The Crawfords are recognized as one of the greatest teams of their era in the NLB. As a result of the team's success, the franchise was one of the few to own its own stadium: Greenlee Field, in the city's Hill District. In 1937, following back-to-back championships, many of the team's star players — including three future Hall of Famers — left to play in the Dominican Republic. The team never recovered, and after declining attendance the franchise moved twice and finally folded in 1940. Notable Hall of Fame Crawfords included Satchel Paige (#26), Oscar Charleston, Josh Gibson (#11), Cool Papa Bell (#17), and Judy Johnson (#35).
