Create with the sun: A Beginner's Cyanotype Workshop Tuesday, July 21th | 4:00 – 6:30 PM In this 2.5 hour beginner-friendly class, you’ll discover the art of sun printing using botanicals and found objects to create stunning blue-and-white designs. With both step-by-step guidance and the freedom to experiment, you'll learn about the history of cyanotype art, essential techniques to get started, and best practices for sourcing and foraging natural materials. During the workshop, you’ll create a few cyanotype pieces using a variety of materials provided in class. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a budding artist, or simply curious, this workshop offers a unique way to connect with creativity and the natural world. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of cyanotype printing, a new creative outlet, finished artwork, your own sun-dyed bandana, and a botanical sun-printing kit—equipping you to continue exploring long after the class ends. This class is taught by Kali McKeown of Sierra Sown. She's an artist, creator, and outdoor enthusiast—an ocean lover turned mountain dweller who draws endless inspiration from the wild places she has explored. As the founder of Sierra Sown, she blends natural elements of the Sierra Nevada with the magic of the sun, pressed flowers, and topographic maps, crafting cyanotype goods that evoke adventure and a deep connection to place. Beyond creating, she is an educator, passionate about inspiring others to rediscover their creativity and transform the beauty of the natural world into art.
