The Guardian in Repose 青白玉籽料貔貅

Compact and reassuring in its curled repose, this Pixiu is carved from green-white nephrite seed jade (青白籽料), its rounded form made for the pleasure of 把玩—holding, turning and appreciating in the hand. Its mythical strength is expressed not through a fierce, imposing stance, but through the contained presence of a guardian at rest, ever watchful over the prosperity entrusted to it. Particularly appealing is the retention of the jade’s natural outer seed skin, preserved as an integral part of the carving. This unpolished trace of the stone’s original surface creates a quiet dialogue between nature and craftsmanship, lending the piece an individuality that cannot be replicated. The cool, creamy tones of the nephrite, together with the tactile contours of the curled Pixiu, invite repeated handling and closer appreciation over time. Traditionally cherished as a guardian of wealth and good fortune, the Pixiu makes a fitting companion for the collector’s desk or palm—a small creature with a formidable reputation, keeping prosperity close and fortune under watch.
