Domaine Philippe Tessier Cour-Cheverny 'La Porte Doree'
"Philippe believes that a wine should be the expression of the place from which it comes and should reflect the climatic conditions of the year, as well as the vigneron that produces it, while also respecting the life of the soil and the environment. He believes that it should give pleasure but must also be sound and healthy, alive and digestible and above all, it should be a natural wine."-Zev Rovine Selections In 1961, Philippe's father Roger Tessier founded Domaine Tessier, with Philippe taking over in 1981. They currently have 23ha of vines in the Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny AOCs of the Loire Valley. Tessier's 'La Porte Doree' is 100% Romorantin coming from Cour-Cheverny, the only appellation that Romorantin can be appellated under. True to the varietal, and true to Tessier's style, this is an electric, bracing, and tactile wine. Stark fruits of green pear, apricot, quince, grapefruit, and candied lemon are intermingled with powerful aromatics of lime flower, white pepper, and an ever present saline character. A truly fascinating and singular wine.
