Vintage Asian-Style Silver-Tone Woven Belt with Turquoise-Coloured Dragon Clasp
A remarkable vintage statement belt or waist ornament with strong Tibetan and Himalayan jewellery influences, constructed from multiple strands of finely woven silver-tone metal punctuated by ornate sculptural spacer plaques. At the centre sits an elaborate zoomorphic clasp, suggestive of a stylised dragon or mythical creature, embellished with vivid turquoise-coloured cabochons. A secondary articulated section falls vertically from the waist, finished with further decorative metalwork and a sculptural terminal — giving the piece the ceremonial, almost jewellery-like character associated with traditional Himalayan waist ornaments. Its substantial weight, intricate woven construction and naturally oxidised surface give the metal the appearance of aged silver, although the metal content has not been independently tested. Likewise, the blue stones appear consistent with turquoise but should be considered turquoise-coloured cabochons unless gemologically confirmed. More than simply a belt, this is a piece of wearable sculptural jewellery: richly textured, unusual and highly decorative, with a distinctly Central Asian/Himalayan aesthetic. Particularly compelling styled over a plain dress, tailoring or knitwear, where its elaborate workmanship can become the focal point. Also available in our store in Marylebone, London.
