Mickey and Minnie Mouse Quilt

This is only the second example of which I am aware that depicts both appliqued and embroidered images of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The other example is illustrated on page 91 of "Treasure or Not: How to Compare and Value American Quilts". It is now in the collection of the The International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mickey Mouse made his first appearance in 1928. Based upon Mickey and Minnie's clothing, this quilt was made not long after. While both this example and the one illustrated in the book are quite similar, they are not identical. It is interesting that the fabrics used for the clothing of both quilts are the same, including the billowing printed material for the skirts on Minnie. Many of the embroidered scenes in both quilts are the same, but not all. The embroidered scenes as well as the facial features of the mice are done with considerable detail. This quilt is in excellent condition. Quilting is done with a pattern of diamonds. Measurements are 68" x 80"; made circa 1930.
