Tiered glass chandelier · Four tiers · Available finishes Glacia, light caught in ice. Some rooms are waiting for a ceiling moment. Glacia is built for exactly that: four descending rings of hand-finished textured glass, each panel rippled and frosted like a sheet of river ice, hung from an electroplated frame on an adjustable chain — in polished gold or polished nickel. Here it is drawn to the same scale as a door, a person and a dining table, in a room with a standard 2.7 m ceiling. CEILING · 2.7 MFLOORDOOR · 200 CM170 CMTABLE · 120 × 75 CM33″84.5 cmCLEAR 01 It reads as one object At ∅ 51 cm the widest tier covers a little under half a 120 cm table, so it centres the table without hanging over the place settings. 02 You look into it, not at it Hung as drawn, the bottom tier lands above eye level when you are seated and below it when you stand. That is the point of a tiered piece — from the chair you look into it, not at it. 03 It is not a walkway fitting Total drop is 110.5 cm from the ceiling. Over an open floor that leaves too little headroom, so order a shorter chain or hang it over furniture. The structure Four rings, each one smaller. The tiers step inward as they descend, so the frame reads as a single cascade rather than four separate shades. Each ring is hung on its own plated band, and each one is glazed with the same rippled, frosted glass. TIER 01TIER 02TIER 03TIER 04STEPPING INWARD A bulb behind every ring Four E12 / E14 sockets, one to a tier, each sitting behind its own band of glass. The light is generated at four heights instead of one, which is what gives the cascade its depth. Blown, not pressed Every panel is blown and hand-finished, so the ripple runs differently across each one. Hold two side by side and they will not match — that is the material, not a fault. Plated, not painted The frame and the four bands are electroplated, so the finish is in the metal rather than on it. Three to choose from — gold, nickel, chrome — and the plating covers every metal part, down to the screws. The light Glass that scatters instead of showing. Clear glass hands you the filament: one hard, bright point repeated in every panel. Rippled and frosted glass does the opposite — the surface bends each ray a different way and the frosting takes the edge off what comes through. CLEAR GLASSHOT SPOTRIPPLED + FROSTEDSOFT, SCATTERED 01 The ripple bends it No two parts of a blown panel are the same thickness, so each ray leaves at its own angle. One bulb becomes a field of light rather than a point. 02 The frost softens it The frosted face takes the hard edge off what gets through, so the filament never resolves into a shape you can stare at. 03 The amber warms it The glass is tinted, not coated. Light picks the colour up on its way through, which is why the room goes honey rather than yellow. Two states Ice by day, amber by night. Unlit, the glass keeps its cool cast and the metal does the work. Lit, the tint comes forward and the whole stack warms from the inside. Same chandelier, same wall, one switch. Switching itself · hold it below OffSwitch the chandelier offSwitch the chandelier onOn Switched off Four pale rings and a plated frame. The ripple catches daylight along its ridges, so the piece still has movement with nothing running through it. Switched on The amber in the glass comes up and the four tiers separate into four bands of light, each one a little smaller than the one above it. It switches itself on and off. Use the switch to hold it either way, or rest the pointer on the image. Both frames are photographs of the piece in Polished Gold. The finish switch further down redraws the diagrams, not these two shots. Materials Amber glass, the metal is yours. The glass is one material in one colour. The metal is a choice of three, and it carries right through the piece — frame, bands, canopy, chain and the mounting hardware. Blown glass, amber tint Rippled on the outside, frosted on the inside face. The tint runs through the material, so the colour holds whatever bulb you put behind it. ProcessBlown, hand-finished SurfaceRippled · frosted Polished GoldPolished NickelPolished Chrome (reference only) Two listed finishes and a reference finish Frame, bands, canopy and chain are plated to one tone, so the metal reads as a single piece from the ceiling down. Pick any of the three above and every drawing on this page redraws in it. ProcessElectroplating FinishAmber + Polished GoldPolished NickelPolished Chrome (reference only) Finishes Three metals, one piece of glass. Canopy, rod, chain, hook, mounting plate and screws are plated together, so nothing in the box is the wrong gold. The amber glass is the same in all three — only the metal changes. If the room needs a tone that is not here, finish is one of the things made to order. Polished GoldPolished NickelPolished Chrome (reference only) CEILING19.7″50 cmSUPPLIEDLENGTH TO ORDER Hanging it Tell us the ceiling, we'll set the chain. Everything about how far down it hangs is set by one part. Room-by-room clearances are further down, under In the room; this is the chain itself. In the box Chain, hook, canopy and the mounting plate, all plated to the finish you chose. Shortening it Open a link at the canopy end with pliers, take out what you do not need, and re-run the wire through what is left. No parts to order. Lengthening it Made before it ships. Send the ceiling height and the drop you want and the chain arrives at length, with the wire already cut to match. Measure from The outlet box, not the floor and not the lowest point of the ceiling. The chain hangs from wherever the box is. On a 2.7 m ceiling The chain as supplied leaves the bottom tier about 1.6 m off the floor. Higher ceilings want more chain, or the piece floats. Installing Up in four steps, once the power is off. It mounts like any chained chandelier — a canopy over the outlet box, the chain hooked to it, the wires through the chain. There is no driver and no transformer to find room for. Glass adds weight, so the one thing worth checking before you start is the fixing. 1Kill the circuit Switch the breaker off, not just the wall switch, and check the wires are dead before anything comes down. 2Check what it hangs from The outlet box has to be rated to carry a glass fixture, not just a lampshade. If it is a plasterboard ceiling with no brace, fit one first. 3Set the chain Remove links to shorten, from the canopy end, and re-run the wire through what is left. Tell us the drop before it ships and it arrives at length. 4Wire, hang, glaze An electrician connects it — standards differ by country. Fit the bulbs last, with the glass already up, so nothing is handled twice. AC 110–240V, so the same fixture works on either supply, and no driver or transformer is needed. Bulbs are not included — base type and maximum wattage are in the specification at the top of the page. FLAT CANOPYGAPSLOPED ADAPTERFLUSHPITCHTHE CHAIN HANGS PLUMB EITHER WAYONLY THE CANOPY CHANGES Sloped ceilings Angled ceiling, level chandelier. A chain is the easiest thing to hang off a slope, because the chain finds vertical on its own — the tiers stay level whatever the ceiling does. The part that does not cope is the canopy: a flat one meets an angled ceiling on one edge and leaves a wedge of daylight on the other. Tell us the pitch when you order and a sloped canopy adapter is made up with the piece, so the cover sits flush and the outlet box stays hidden. Pitch handled Up to 45°. Past that, send a photo of the ceiling and the outlet position before you order. What to send The angle if you have it, or simply the rise: how much higher the ceiling is 100 cm along the slope. Either is enough to cut the adapter. Measure the drop On a slope, measure from the outlet box itself, not from the lowest point of the room. The chain hangs from where the box is. Clearance The low side of the room decides it. Keep 2.1 m / 6′10″ under the bottom tier measured where the ceiling is lowest, not where the chandelier hangs. Vaulted rooms A slope usually means height to spare. Order a longer chain and bring the piece down to where it is seen, rather than leaving it in the apex. In the room Pick a room, see it hung. The same chandelier in four settings, with the numbers that matter in each one. Over a dining tableIn the entryIn the living roomDown a hallway Over a dining table This is what it is built for. At ∅ 51 cm it centres a round table of 90–120 cm, or sits at one end of a longer rectangular one. Table 90–120 cm round Drop above top 75–80 cm / 30–32″ Chain 50 cm as supplied, on a 2.7 m ceiling Styling Keep the table bare under it. The pool of light is the centrepiece, and a tall vase competes with the bottom tier. In the entry An entry is the one room people walk through looking up. The tiers read in silhouette against the ceiling before the light is ever switched on. Clearance 2.1 m / 6′10″ minimum underneath Chain Shorten to suit — entries are walked under Bulbs 2700K frosted, so the hall is not glary Styling Put a mirror on the facing wall. The four tiers double, and a narrow hall reads twice as wide. In the living room A living room is where it is seen the longest, and mostly from a seated height. From the sofa you look up into the tiers rather than down onto them, which is the view the piece was drawn for. Position Over the coffee table, or centred on the seating — not centred on the room if the furniture is not Clearance 2.1 m / 6′10″ minimum anywhere people walk Bulbs 2700K · dimming bulbs if it is the only light in the room Styling Let it be the only thing on that ceiling. A living room with downlights as well as a chandelier reads as two lighting schemes arguing. Down a hallway A hallway is walked, not sat in, so the piece is read in passing and from directly underneath. That is the one view where all four tiers line up inside each other. Clearance 2.1 m / 6′10″ minimum — this is the setting that decides the chain Chain Usually shortened. Send the ceiling height and it arrives at length More than one Down a long hall, space them 180–220 cm apart and keep them on one line Styling Centre it on the width of the hall, not on the nearest door. A corridor shows a hanging piece being 10 cm off better than any other room. CEILINGTABLE · 200 CM LONG43″ centres110 cm centres In pairs Two in a row, and the table lengthens. One Glacia centres a round table. A long rectangular table wants two, and once there are two the spacing does more work than the fixture does. These are the numbers we would start from. Two or three Two over a table of 180–220 cm. Three over 260 cm and up. Even numbers over a table, odd numbers over an island. Centre to centre 100–120 cm / 39–47″. At ∅ 51 cm that leaves roughly half a diameter of air between them, which is what stops two reading as one wide object. From the ends Keep the outer chandeliers at least 45 cm in from each end of the table, so the run looks centred rather than pushed out. Same chain Order them together and tell us the one drop. A pair hung at two different heights is the first thing anyone notices. Compared Not just another glass chandelier. Most tiered glass fittings use clear pressed panels and one central lamp. Both of those decisions show, lit and unlit. Glacia A typical tiered glass chandelier The glass Blown and hand-finished, rippled outside and frosted inside. Pressed clear panels, identical to each other. What you see lit Four bands of light at four heights. The filament never resolves. One bright source repeated as a reflection in every panel. Where the light comes from Four sockets, one behind each tier. Usually one lamp in the middle, lighting the top tier hardest. Colour Amber runs through the material, so the tint holds whatever bulb you fit. Often a sprayed or coated tint that shifts with the bulb. The metal Electroplated frame, bands, canopy and chain, all to one tone — in polished gold or polished nickel. Painted or lacquered, one finish only, and the chain is often a different gold. When it is off Pale ice-toned glass with the ripple catching daylight. Clear glass, which mostly shows the sockets and the wiring. Sizing Two finishes are listed for online purchase. Contact us to confirm any other configuration before ordering. One size, one finish, one chain. Care Keep the glass clear, keep the plating bright. Frosted glass holds dust more visibly than clear glass, and electroplating dislikes solvents. Neither needs much — it just needs the right cloth. The glass Dry microfibre, wiped along the ripple rather than across it. For a mark, breathe on the panel and wipe — never spray onto the fixture. The plating Dry cloth only, on all available finishes. No ammonia, no alcohol, no polish: electroplating is thin, and anything abrasive goes through it. Chrome shows fingerprints soonest, especially on the canopy. The chain Dust runs in the links. Run a dry cloth down the chain once when you do the glass, and check the canopy screws at the same time. Twice a year, in this order Breaker off, and let the bulbs cool completely.Dust the chain and canopy first, so nothing falls onto clean glass.Work down the tiers, top to bottom, one panel at a time.Keep liquid away from the sockets and the plated bands.Check each bulb is seated, and the canopy screws are still tight.Power back on, and look at it lit before you put the ladder away. The boxes are just for you — nothing is saved or sent anywhere. Customised service Built to your ceiling, not ours. Four things on this chandelier are made to order, and none of them costs you a redesign. Talk to our designers directly and we will build the piece around the room it is going into. 01 Size Scale the whole piece up or down from the standard ∅ 51 cm. 02 Finish Gold, nickel and chrome are stock. Anything else, we plate the frame to the tone the room wants. 03 Light source count Four sockets is the standard. More or fewer is a build option, not a special order. 04 Hanging length Chain made to the drop you need, so nothing has to be cut or coiled on site. For inquiries, contact us at support@metavaya.com. Whether it supports dimming depends on what type of bulb you buy. If you buy a dimming bulb, this lamp will achieve a dimming function. The bulb provided by default does not support dimming. What bulbs do I need? Four bulbs with an E12 or E14 base, 15W maximum each. We would use 2700K warm white to stay with the amber in the glass. Clear filament bulbs read as bright points through the ripple and give the piece more sparkle; frosted bulbs give an even wash and are the calmer choice over a bed or a work surface. Size & hanging How long is the chain, and can it be changed?Hanging chain 50 cm / 19.7″. The length of the suspension chain can be changed as required — contact us with your ceiling height and the drop you want. How many should I hang over a long table? Two over a table of 180–220 cm, three over 260 cm and up, spaced 100–120 cm centre to centre and kept at least 45 cm in from each end. One is enough for anything round up to 120 cm.Can it go on a sloped or vaulted ceiling?Yes. The chain hangs plumb on its own, so the tiers stay level; only the canopy needs to change. Send the pitch, or the rise over 100 cm, and a sloped adapter is made with the piece. Measure the drop from the outlet box, and take your clearance from the low side of the room. How high should I hang it?Over a table, 75–90 cm / 30–35″ from the tabletop to the bottom tier. Anywhere people walk, keep the bottom tier at least 2.1 m / 6′10″ off the floor. Build & care Will every panel look the same? No, and that is the point. The glass is blown and hand-finished, so the ripple and the depth of the amber shift a little from panel to panel. Screens also render amber differently from a lit room. How do I clean the glass?Switch it off and let the bulbs cool. Dust the panels with a dry microfibre cloth, following the ripple rather than across it. For marks, breathe on the glass and wipe — do not spray cleaner onto the fixture, and keep liquid away from the sockets and the plated frame. Is it hard to install? It mounts to the ceiling like any chained chandelier, with a canopy covering the outlet, and no separate driver is required. Glass adds weight, so check the ceiling fixing will take it and have a qualified electrician do the wiring — standards differ by country. What finishes does it come in? Two finishes are available to order online: Polished Gold and Polished Nickel. Chrome images are for reference and are not an available checkout option. The finish covers every metal part — frame, bands, canopy, rod, chain, hook and the mounting plate — so nothing in the box is the wrong colour. The amber glass is the same in all three. If you need a tone that is not on the list, finish is one of the things made to order; tell us what the room needs. Will two of them match? The frames and the chains will, as long as you order them in the same finish. The glass will not match panel for panel, because it is blown — that is true within one chandelier as much as between two. Order a pair together and tell us the drop you want, and they will at least hang at the same height.
