Norway & Kleiva

Norway from 1956 encapsulates the country with the almost programmatic text “Ski – Sun – Snow”. Two years later, Paul Andreas Røstad photographed a skier in Kleiva, a place of particular significance in Oslo’s skiing history: it was there that the first ski lift north of the Alps opened in 1938.Together, the motifs move from the idealized tourist image to real skiing life. The same snow, the same movement, and the same Norwegian self-image make them unusually clear as a pair – a poster about the dream and a photograph of it in practice.
