Joe Hisaishi – Symphonic Suite Princess Mononoke LP (Czech Philharmonic, First Vinyl Edition, Japan Import TJJA-10026)

About the album The Princess Mononoke soundtrack was already one of Hisaishi's grandest orchestral scores. For the Symphonic Suite, he went further, rearranging the film's major themes into a continuous eight-chapter work and taking it to Prague to record with the Czech Philharmonic, one of Europe's great orchestras. The result plays like a symphony: the heroic "Legend of Ashitaka," the menace of the "Tatarigami," the hushed "Forest of the Deer God," the "Adagio of Life and Death" and a closing chapter for Ashitaka and San. It's the definitive concert version of the score and a favorite of listeners who love Hisaishi's orchestral writing. In 2020, Studio Ghibli Records remastered it and released it on vinyl for the first time.
